Expert Wear® Twin Brow & Eye Wood Pencil

I have used Maybelline Expert Eyes Velvet Black for 30 possibly 40 years. I live in Canada and they stopped selling it here. I have to get friends from US to mail me care packages or whenever I go to States I spend a day cleaning out all nearby drugstores. It is the best. Stays on long, even through hot flashes and water. Wish they still sold it here. Don’t want to get tattooed. Wish they had a dark grey or a darker brown. The “ Dark Brown” isn’t very dark and it has a reddish hue to it. Anyway, please never discontinue!!! Please sell in Canada again.

I've used this pencil for 50 years! But now I'm trying to find a replacement. The pencils won't sharpen properly and the tips break off after 2 or 3 turns in the sharpener.

My mother and I have the same hair color and our skin tones make our eyebrows completely blend in. It just so happens that the blonde-colored eye/brow stick is the exact same color as our hair—I mean exact! She has been using these since they came out and I’ve been using them my whole life. We get anxious when we cant find them in the stores because we’re worried they’re being discontinued. That would be tragic for us because no other pencil matches our hair color so well. Besides that, it’s a great value, well-made product. Classic, old-school, it does what it says on the package, which is such a rare thing these days. PS: If Maybelline ever decides to discontinue it, can you at least give me the chance to buy enough to get me through the rest of my life (seriously, any other brand/shade looks weird on us).

Ok, let me start this off by saying that I AM A REDHEAD. Therefore, if a brow product that doesn’t even claim to be for redheads or even “warm” is too warm/orange for me, there’s a problem. I have this in the shade light brown. It is completely unwearable. It’s not just too warm, it’s literally BRIGHT ORANGE. Like Jack-o-lantern orange. It was so bad I had to wipe it all off and just start my makeup over, but luckily it was at least super easy to wipe off, but that doesn’t exactly speak well for its wear.. Otherwise I will say it did glide on really nicely and evenly, I did like that. But the color is just an absolute travesty. NO ONE can wear this shade and look good or even normal, I promise you that. Not even the most fire-red/orange ginger redhead in the world. It just doesn’t look natural. Like it’s not just orange, it’s ORANGE. A very unnatural shade of orange. Also, the “brown” part of this? I know it says light brown, but still, if this weren’t so orange then it would be blonde, light blonde even. It’s quite light and there’s absolutely NOTHING brown about it. This might be an ok product if they had a shade that was wearable for me, but as my hair is quite light and I have highlights the darker shades aren’t an option, and clearly the lighter shades are just awful. It’s honestly surprising because maybelline is my favorite brand for brow products specifically BECAUSE their shades are so on point and natural looking and they’re great at making cool toned shades. even tho I’m a redhead I tend to prefer cooler toned brow products, even it doesn’t match my hair exactly, because in reality/nature redheads tend to have brows that don’t match their hair color (my natural brows sure don’t, hence the need for brow products, unfortunately my brows are naturally very light blonde and therefore invisible, and also not red at all) and they’re almost always cooler toned than our hair. So yeah it’s a bit surprising that they got it so wrong with this when their newer/more expensive brow products are amazing. Overall I’d probably give this product a 2 but specifically for the light brown shade it gets a 1 because idk how that shade even made it out on the market tbh. Bright. Orange.

I am one of many women who have used Maybelline brow pencils all of our adult lives and now wear our natural silver hair proudly. Fewer and fewer senior women are dying their hair, and it is so very exasperating and disappointing that the pencils are no longer available in grey! Unless we go on eBay and pay an exorbitant price for them, we just have to do without. Baby boomers are valuable customers, too, aren’t we? I’m hopeful that one day I’ll receive an email saying that grey is back on store shelves!

This liner has been my go to for three decades. It's tried and true. No smudging or fading. I use it for my brows and eyeliner. I Dont use anything else

I use Light Brown. I am blonde with brown eyes and medium skin. This is a Great Neutral Color, not too warm not too cool not to dark not to light, just right !! i use it in my eye crease and sometimes as a lip liner. i have also used it to contour jowls. it's the best most perfect versatile color !! Please never discontinue Light Brown !!

As a child, I remember my mother using Maybelline’s iconic Expert Brown and Eye Wood Pencil in blonde to shape and define her eyebrows during her daily makeup routine. While perusing the cosmetics section of a local store in search of an eyebrow pencil I spotted the Expert Wear Twin Brown and Eye Wood Pencil in the Maybelline section. I decided to give it a go and purchased the shade blonde. The color matched my hair and was easy to use in shaping and defining my eyebrows. After applying the pencil to my eyebrows, I use an eyebrow brush to blend the color into my brows. The result was natural looking brows with the color lasting all day long. Another use for this iconic pencil is to use it as eyeliner for your eyes. I use the shade dark brown to create a defining line on my upper lid followed by Maybelline Made for Mocha eyeshadow. Maybelline needs to consider broadening the shade range by bringing back the auburn and charcoal gray pencils.

Excellent for eyebrows & eyeliner. This pencil is an absolute MUST in my stash! I personally use as a brow pencil, but works great as a liner. If you need a smoother consistency it’s a classic that works great with a little heat.

I have been using these pencils for 40 years. Now I can't find my AUBURN anymore. Please bring back Auburn. I am strawberry blonde and no other shade works for me! PLEASE!!!!

This product has changed throughout the years. It used to be a great brow pencil but now it splits when you sharpen it and my eyebrows smear like they never used to. I’m sad that I will no longer be using this product after almost 24 years.

To apply this pencil as an Eyebrow Cosmetic fill in Backward, Shape with forward strokes. Spooly, Conceal. ( For Grey hair / Ash blonde set the eyebrows with a Translucent powder and it will give the same effect as the older revision that is no longer for sale. (To use as a 24 Hr eyeliner) In shade Dark Brown Slightly warm sharpened pencil tip with Candle igniter. This will apply the product as a creme And will set it for 24 hours. MAYBELLINE EXPERT WEAR IS FOR EXPERTS. Become the best version of yourself.

I am a redhead and I have been using the medium brown since high school. Now I am 58 years old. After trying out newer and different trendy brow products, I have never found anything that comes close to this. It stays all day.

All these colors are too warm for my natural ashy blonde hair. Charcoal Gray was a perfect match and they discontinued it. Why would they discontinue such a popular color? Ashy blonde and gray haired people have no match in this line.

The best way to use this eyeliner is to burn the tip. YES, burn the tip like you would a crayon. Once it cools off, use it as an eyeliner and you will see for yourself how long it lasts. All the women in my family are all between the ages of 40 - 60 and we don't use any other brand.

This pencil can be used for eyebrows but is way too hard to use as an eyeliner--it requires a lot of pressure to transfer the color to sensitive eye lids.

This color is perfect for my sister and me. The others make my eyebrows look odd.

I been buying this twin eye & brow pencils for years n it seem like this pencil is getting worse . I sharpen the pencil n it sent to break all the time I literally sharpen all the way to the bottom because the lid keeps breaking the pencil keeps cracking when I’m chirping I don’t know why this product has become more worse than before which I need to improve on it because I buy this product all the time and it seems like it’s just getting worse. Can’t even sharpen without the lid breaking all the time.

I have used this product for years. Going from my youthful years using black eyebrow pencil to the brown when my hair started getting a little gray. I have been gray now for 20 years and transitioned to using the gray pencil. Nothing compared to this pencil, then poof it’s gone. It breaks my heart that I look online and see one gray package for $50. Please bring back the gray, please! Think about your faithful followers.

I HAVE USED THIS PRODUCT FOR 50 YEARS. THE LAST PACKAGE I PURCHASED IS NOT THE SAME QUALITY. VERY SOFT BREAKS OFF EASILY AND HARD TO USE. NOT SURE IF I WILL BUY IT AGAIN. SAD!!! YOU MUST HAVE CHANGED SOMETHING NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE.

Being a red head, it is very difficult to find the right makeup shades. I am very disappointed that you discontinued the Auburn expert eyes. I wish you would reconsider making it again.

I cannot find the expert eyes wood pencil color Charcoal grey that I have used for 40 yrs is no more. Too bad, now I must go to a different Brand. Maybe the major competitors have a simular color. Goodbye Maybelline, so sorry u moved to Mexico and got bought out.

I have been using these gems for 15+ years! They are the smoothest brow pencils EVER!! However, I am deeply saddened and disappointed because something has seemed to change with them. The “Dark Brown” color now has a STRONG RED tint/color to it. My brows are black. The Velvet Black pencil is too intense for my brows, and now my beloved Dark Brown color is an absolute no go. The reddish tint stands out like a sore thumb on my face. I dont know what happened, but these pencils are my favorite of all time! Nothing beats them!! I have been using them since I was a teenager. PLEASE bring back the non-red “Dark Brown” pencils!!

I have been looking for grey eyebrow pencils. I have always purchased the Maybelline brand but grey cannot be found. I know several women who feel the same way. In fact, when I came to this site to look, a lady left a comment saying the same thing. I know it is about the monetary bottom line but I think you are missing a large part of the market. Your pencil is such a beautiful contrast to graying hair with no other colors showing through and yet, not too heavy on any one color. The other brands I have tried cannot compete with your product. Please bring it back.

Bought “dark brown” and it’s a light brown with reddish tint. Looks completely wrong on my eyes and brows, as I needed a dark brown (without red tone to it). I’m annoyed that I wasted money on this because the color is not accurately described. Be aware if you want dark brown that this isn’t going to look like you expect it to.

Have used the blond pencils for years. Bought new twin pack and cannot get covering off each individual pencil. Used to be kind of like a tear strip. Tried everything but cannot open so able to remove cap. Used fingernail file but it just went into the wood. The covering would not come off.

I’m super upset that the Dark Browns color has changed! The dark brown was always a nice dark chocolate brown, now it’s much lighter and very red! It looks like medium brown but with more red. I’m so bummed! Please go back to the original dark brown!
