  • We love foundation, but we don’t always feel like putting on a full face of it. And you don’t have to! Concealer works just as well when you want some all over coverage. It whisks away the bad and leaves you with skin that’s glowing, fresh and “un-made up”. And there’s more than one way to wear it. Concealer is super-versatile, and can do everything from covering up blemishes to carving out killer cheekbones. You just gotta know how to work it!

To pull off a full face of concealer, you need to choose the right formula. You want to avoid thicker consistencies, like sticks—those will go on looking cakey and unnatural. Your best bet? A creamy concealer like Instant Age Rewind Concealer. It’s designed to cover up dark circles but works brilliantly for a full face of coverage. It’s super-concentrated, and covers up all manner of blemishes, but also has a treatment component so it gives skin a silky, hydrated radiance, even on fine lines, which are notoriously tricky to cover up.

WHERE TO APPLY CONCEALER PLACEMENT #1: ALL OVER FACE

Take a concealer shade that matches your skin tone and draw vertical lines down your face as you would a normal foundation. Blend it all out with a sponge, then layer on more concealer in any areas that need more coverage. It helps even out your complexion while letting natural skin tone shine through.

WHERE TO APPLY CONCEALER PLACEMENT #2: UNDER EYES

Apply a slightly lighter shade of concealer under eyes, dabbing it on to conceal dark circles.

  • 03 Cassidy Maysonet shows where to apply concealer if you are using it as a highlighter.

WHERE TO APPLY CONCEALER PLACEMENT #3: HIGH POINTS OF FACE

Create highlights to the face by tracing the concealer down the bridge of the nose, the center of the forehead, and the chin, the areas of the face that the light hits first.

  • 04 Cassidy Maysonet shows where to apply concealer to use it for a brow lifting effect.

WHERE TO APPLY CONCEALER PLACEMENT #4: BACK TOWARDS CHEEKBONES

Apply IAR's Neutralizer shade, which is more brightener than concealer, to the under eyes, and back towards cheekbones to create a “lifted” effect. Using just the tip of a sponge, pat the concealer into under eye skin gently, moving it back towards the hairline.

  • 05 Cassidy Maysonet shows where to apply concealer if you are using it to contour.

WHERE TO APPLY CONCEALER PLACEMENT #5: HOLLOWS OF CHEEKS

Using a darker shade, create contours along the hollows of cheekbones, at the temples and on the sides of the nose. It blends in really easily, so use just a little bit of it at a time.
