Crayon won't sharpen

Love the brownish clack color. Crayon broker when sharpening each time I tried the barrel of the liner isn't round when trying to sharpen it rotated only and contributed to lopsided sharpening

Regarding the sharpening- For best results, insert the pencil into the sharpener no more than 1/4 of an inch. If you push the pencil too far into the sharpener, the blade will grab too much and become difficult to sharpen. The goal is to shave off the resin in a thin curl to reveal more liner. The pencil should be sharpened frequently so that 3 or 4 gentle turns are sufficient to achieve the desired result. There's a bit of a learning curve but you'll master it in no time. A new sharpener with a fresh blade can make a big difference!

Won’t Sharpen

I loved the product before I had to sharpen it. The pencil won’t sharpen. I even bought a new sharpener thinking that would help. I ended up using a knife to sharpen it.

Like so many other reviewers, I found the pencil impossible to sharpen. The liner itself broke right off as soon as the wood pencil was below the liner core. I've gone through easily 1.5" trying to sharpen it. Such a waste of money! Unlike others, I liked the texture of the liner, found it easy to blend, and had no itchy reaction to it. But I will never buy this again.

I lined my bottom lashes in shade brown black and wore it from 12 pm - 5 pm. Outside of a warm sunny day and inside at a store. This liner looks good for 30 minutes. It slowly broke up along my bottom lash line and by 5 I had to remove it because I could see it had been flaking into my eyes! I would Not Recommend This Pencil Liner. I am new to wearing liner but when something breaks up then goes into my eyes after only being on 4 hours…. I would argue anyone that, this product does Not work Well. Period.

crumbly and does not fit standard sharpener

DO NOT BUY THIS. Whoever thought this was ready to go to market should be sentenced to wear it every day for the rest of their life. It is kind of itchy and hard, so application is ho-hum. Then, it turns out that the pencil is too thin for a standard sharpener, and stores do not sell a sharpener that fits it. And the eyeliner crumbled as I tried to sharpen it. A bad experience all around.

Itchy and Breaks Easily

I had high hopes for this product, but it just caused nothing but difficulties. When I applied the eyeliner my eyes started to itch a little bit, but I ignored it. The second time, it was much worse. I ended up removing the eyeliner altogether to see if that was the cause.
In addition, when I tried sharpening the eyeliner because the tip broke the first time, I could not sharpen it. It kept breaking every time. I ended up getting a somewhat decent tip, but it just kept flaking apart. Even while sharpening it would break apart!
I would NOT buy this product again! It is not worth the price, the hassle, or the fact that it causes my eyes to itch. I almost thought about using it to lightly fill my eyebrows, but I don't want to risk it.

Wasted almost ten bucks on this. Smears everywhere even without using the little smudge tip, and the smudge tip just picks up all the product from your eye when you try to use it. It's obviously a pencil and can be sharpened like one, but the liner is just too weak to hold its own shape and will break off at the slightest movement. A huge chunk of it fell in my eye when I was putting it on. Will be going back to using the L'oréal pencils, and I fully regret trying to use this pencil when I couldn't find my regular one in the store.

LOVE THE CORE COMPONENTS DISLIKE THE PENCIL

I've used this product for years because its a great product. However, I'm quite disappointed for three reasons. One, because there's not one single store that carries this pencil eyeliner and is only available for purchase online. Which, is advertised at one price, but when you get to the check out the price appears to be three dollars extra (without tax/shipping). Two, the eyeliner casing (online version) keeps breaking when the pencil is sharpened; the core formula seems to be the same and it does the job. Three, the eyeliner now comes wrapped in a really tight wrap paper with an inside sticker barcode that leaves the pencil and fingers very sticky and gooey. Other than that, I still love this eyeliner and will continue to use for as long as its available. Maybelline, please return to the old manufacturing material for the casing and start distributing to the stores. Thanks!

BRING BACK IN STORES!!!!!!!!

so glad i hopped online to find that im not crazy for thinking this might have gotten discontinued because i just went to 3 different stores (walmart, ulta, and cvs) and read the last 3 reviews on here to conclude that these are not available in stores anymore!!!! although maybelline still has variations eyeliners still available such as unstoppable and the lasting drama, the unstoppable is not my preference because it is not a wood pencil that you can sharpen, and while lasting drama IS, it does NOT include a smudger which is what i love about THIS eyeliner (line express) and use EVERY DAY in my makeup routine. if you are thinking about discontinuing, im begging you, DONT and if anything PLEASE BRING BACK IN STORE

I having been using this eyeliner for several years. I have no problems with sharpening it. Actually lately I cannot find this product at Walmart which is mostly where I shop. I miss the bronze color because I could not only use it for an eyeliner but it was a perfect match for a brow filler too. Please bring back the bronze color.

this is sill my favorite ive been using since it first came out, goes on smooth, last all day. blends nice. I still love a wood pencil, ive never had any sharpening issues, just place in sharpener and turn a lightly one turn around and its sharp. mine never breaks. Love love love this. please do not discontinue this.

Breaks apart while sharpening

I have bought this product for many years, but the past couple times I've bought it, the makeup pencil breaks apart too easily. I can sharpen it with a good sharpener and it just falls apart. It used to be a little more solid and smooth. It's also more greasy, it does not stay put. it wipes off too easily. I love this pencil. What has changed?

Solution to breakage

Everyone has been writing about how this pencil breaks when sharpening. I also had this problem because the lead is so soft. I starting putting mine in the freezer and sharpened the next morning. It has been working out great. By the time I finish putting on my other makeup the pencil is ready to use. I always have two that I rotate using. I'm having problems finding the brownish black color. I'm getting worried about it.

I bought the Line Express Eyeliner as it was on sale and the first time I used it, my eyes became itchy and watering up so bad that it made my eyes burn so bad that I couldn't get it off fast enough. I tried it a second time just to see if maybe it was something else but didn't even get the 2nd eye lined before the burning started. Complete waste of my hard earned money as I had to throw it away.

Poor Quality with Line Express Wood Pencil Liner

I have had the same pencil for a while and wanted to get a new one before my current one was used up. I love the pencil and smudger combo and Maybelline is one a few left that offer it. I bought one last week and tried to sharpen it for the first time and the tip kept breaking off - I wasted half the pencil in less than a week of use!

It was a nice eyeliner until I needed to sharpen it and it was all over I could not get it to even get a smooth spot so that I could use a little bit of it I sharpened 3/4s of the pencil down in one sharpening it will not sharpen for nothing.

You'll use it until i needs sharpening and then when you try to sharpen it, the tip continues to break off. Before you know it, you have nothing left. SO FRUSTRATING. I even tried putting it in the freezer as some have suggested. It doesn't matter.

I have bought this eyeliner for many years and absolutely love it. Recently, every time I try to sharpen it (and I have the Maybelline sharpener) it keeps breaking until its too short to use. I just went through an entire pencil in about 2 minutes.

I bought this in ebony, love how it goes on. Have had a week and decided it needed sharpened as the point wears quickly due to the softness. It will NOT sharpen ! As soon a it gets anywhere near sharp it just breaks off! Not happy with this product!

This eyeliner did not glide on smoothly and the color is not intense. It was actually quite painful by the time there was enough eyeliner around my lids to actually see and by that time it didn't look smooth at all. It went on like a crayon.

I usually buy the Unstoppable liners but after I broke one of my other brown eye pencils, I picked up the Line Express in Blackened brown. It goes on smoothly, the tip is soft and not irritating to the eye. I definitely recommend this liner for those who want the flirty, smudgy eyeliner look.
